Be careful with unexpected home visitors!


There has been a recent increase in cases of fraud in which alleged employees of a card-issuer visit their victims at home. In fact, these visitors are fraudsters who ring the doorbell and pretend that fraud has been suspected on the occupant’s debit or credit card and that the card(s) must therefore be withdrawn immediately. The fraudsters also ask for the PIN code from their victims.

The perpetrators take advantage of the element of surprise to put their victims off their guard and make sure that they are unsettled so that the victims follow their instructions immediately and without protest.

Only afterwards do the victims realise that the perpetrators were able to withdraw money using the card and PIN code. The amounts often add up to large sums before a request is made to block the card.
