In today's digital world, technology is usually well protected – but people remain the weakest link. This is exactly where social engineering attacks. Social engineering is an attempt to manipulate people in order to obtain confidential information and money.
29.07.2025 –In social engineering, fraudsters spy on their victim's personal environment: they adopt fake identities or exploit their victim's willingness to help, trust or curiosity. Sometimes they deliberately arouse fear or pretend to be an authority figure. This is how they manipulate their victims.
How to protect yourself from social engineering:
- Be sceptical about unexpected calls, emails or text messages, especially if the caller exerts pressure or claims the matter is urgent.
- Never disclose passwords, PINs or codes – no matter who asks.
- Do not allow anyone to access your computer.
- Do not share sensitive information with strangers.
- Terminate dubious forms of contact immediately.
- If in doubt, consult colleagues, family or the bank/card issuer.
