Tampering with ATMs in the City of Zurich

30.09.2015 –

Cases of cash trapping are being increasingly reported in the City of Zurich. The fraudsters tamper with the ATMs or cashpoint machines so that the notes dispensed become stuck in the device. The victim then leaves the scene to report the incident, but in the meantime the cash is stolen by the criminals.

Police tips for the general public:

If you don't get any money/cash from an ATM or cashpoint machine and an error message appears, do not move away from the dispenser under any circumstances. Ask someone else to report the malfunction and call the Police on the emergency number 117.
