Particularly perfidious phishing e-mails have been circulating for a few days now.
The perpetrators’ objective: to set up their victim's virtual debit or credit card on their own mobile phone to withdraw money.
The procedure is very simple
The perpetrators send their victims an email. In it, they ask cardholders to carry out the necessary security updates for the online accounts of their debit or credit card. Only a few steps are necessary.
The victims then have to update their alleged online account via a link in the e-mail. Various information and card details are required. Victims must also copy and enter a security link that they receive by text message.
Anyone who does this loses a lot of money. The security link enables the perpetrators to load and use their victim's debit or credit card on their own mobile phone in the background.
Attention: Anyone who copies and passes on login information, card details, security codes or security links is in breach of their duty of care and bears full responsibility for triggering payments. In this case, banks and card issuers can no longer do anything for the victims.
Card Security recommends observing the following rules
- Do not click on links or attachments in e-mails.
- With online accounts, always look out for unusual sender addresses, spelling mistakes and logos first.
- Only visit trustworthy websites (https).
- Be suspicious if you are asked to disclose your personal card information.
- Never pass on login information, card details, security codes or security links.
