Phishing emails are currently circulating in the name of Netflix. It is being suggested to Netflix account holders that payment for the next billing period has not been accepted. The email asks them to follow a link and enter their log-in and card details.
11.01.2023 –Streaming services are popular. However, Netflix account holders need to be on their guard at the moment. Since the beginning of the year, fake emails have been circulating in the name of the American streaming service. The message informs the recipients that their payment could not be authorised and that they therefore need to update their payment information.
Anyone who clicks on the link in the message is taken to a fake website and asked to leave their log-in data and card details there. As soon as the fraudsters are in possession of the data, the credit card is charged. But that is not all: In the next step, the fraudsters also try to bypass the two-factor authentication and fraudulently obtain the security code that is sent to the potential victims via SMS. Once in possession of it, the fraudsters can steal their victims' money.
What can I do?
- Ignore such emails.
- Do not open links or attachments to suspicious e-mails.
- Never give SMS codes to third parties.
- Only access the appropriate login function on the official website.
- Never give out your personal login or card information unless you have done thorough research beforehand.
- If you have revealed your card details, have your card blocked.
- File a report with the police if money has been stolen from you.
