99 per cent of young people between the ages of 12 and 19 own a smartphone and therefore also have access to various social media channels (www.jugendundmedien.ch), where they are often lured with tempting offers. A high proportion of young people shop online.
20.02.2024 –This makes it all the more important that children and young people learn at an early age how to use online shops correctly. Parents too have responsibilities here. Support your child and help them protect themselves from online fraud:
- be with your child as they make their first online purchases:
- talk to your child about possible scams such as phishing or fake online shops:
- point out possible cost traps when shopping online (subscriptions, etc.):
- check out possible tools for the computer and smartphone that protect children from dubious providers:
- show your child what to look out for in an online shop (Trusted Shops, contact etc.) Caution: Attractive options are available within games. The costs quickly add up and large amounts are charged to your debit or credit card. This usually happens when the child clicks on chargeable in-game options. Talk to your child about these cost traps.
